Fourteen years ago, Vancouver-based social activist Conrad Schmidt helped organize the first World Naked Bike Ride, a clothing-optional event to celebrate the power and individuality of the human body while advocating for less oil dependency and more bike-friendly streets and communities. Since then, the yearly rides have spread to more than 70 cities around the world. Others raise money, as well as awareness, for various causes.

Participants in the World Naked Bike Ride turned out with Mexican flair, some in underwear and others just as they came into the world -- plus maybe a bike helmet or colorful wrestler's mask. Saturday marks the tenth anniversary of the World Naked Bike Ride in Chicago, a worldwide event that celebrates bikes, the human form and makes a statement against Big Oil. The World Naked Bike ride is "a people-powered happening bringing radical attention against oil addiction; It's not primarily a naturist party," the event's website reads. According to the World Naked Bike Ride website, at least 70 cities and more than 20 countries participate in annual people-powered event.
